With 20 years of service to attorneys and the insurance industry, the forensic mechanical engineering and failure analysis firm of Douglas B. Chisholm & Associates, Inc. has gained nationwide recognition for assisting the legal community in obtaining settlements and judgments in product liability cases.  Our focus on failure analysis includes metallurgy, fracture mechanics, fatigue, corrosion, and Federal and industry codes compliance as they apply to structures and components.

Douglas Chisholm, D.Sc., P.E. has over 40 years experience in the field of failure analysis including 10 years as Chief of Research for the Office of Pipeline Safety (U.S.D.O.T.), and 10 years as a structural research engineer with the Federal Highway Administration (U.S.D.O.T.).  He has authored hundreds of reports, many of which have aided in early settlement for his clients.  His extensive experience in delivering deposition and trial testimony coupled with years of working in the legal arena have helped to guide clients through the many complex issues involving pipeline and products liability litigation.

Dr. Chisholm holds a Doctor of Science degree from George Washington University, specializing in fracture mechanics, and a B.M.E. and M.E.M degree from Cornell University with a focus on mechanics of materials, design and structural analysis.

He was awarded Industrial Research Magazine's IR-100 for patents related to frangible structures and the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bronze Medal for Superior Achievement.  He has been listed in Sigma Xi, Who's Who in Technology Today, American Men and Women of Science, and Outstanding Men of America.

Dr. Chisholm is a member of many professional organizations including ASM, ASME, ASTM, AWS, NACE, NSPE, and VSPE.  He has lectured extensively in the area of failure analysis and fracture mechanics and has taught pipeline failure investigation courses at the U.S.D.O.T. Transportation Safety Institute in Oklahoma City, OK. 

He has been an invited speaker at ASM meetings of the Washington D.C. Chapter.  Dr. Chisholm is a licensed professional (mechanical) engineer in Virginia and Alabama.
